"If there’s an “X marks the spot” for the proverbial heart of theatreland, I’m sitting right on it. I’ve walked past a dozen of London’s greatest playhouses to reach St Martin’s Lane. Then I’ve entered the Duke of York’s Theatre and climbed the stairs from the foyer to a warren of little rooms full of youngsters scurrying around with what seem to be giant boxes of T-shirts. “Ready for the big premiere on Saturday!” someone breathlessly confided."
