Mark Rylance’s Shakespeare double bill recoups on Broadway

Monday 13 January 2014

Featuring Mark Rylance, Stephen Fry and Samuel Barnett, and directed by Tim Carroll, the shows are being performed in repertory at Broadway's Belasco Theatre where they have broken the house record several times. A check of weekly Broadway grosses since their November 10, 2013 opening lists the productions' often playing to more than 100% capacity, while never falling below 95%.

Their immense popularity also explains how they were able to recoup so quickly even though for each performance, 250 seats - accounting for almost one quarter of the Belasco's 1,051 seating capacity - are sold for $25.

"Theatre should be available to all audiences" the producers noted. "We're especially heartened that we have been able to sell almost a quarter of every house for $25, providing a way for all theatergoers to see and enjoy these productions, while still managing to recoup our production costs and turn a profit."

Twelfth Night and Richard III play a limited Broadway engagement through February 16. Twelfth Night and Richard III have been produced on Broadway by Sonia Friedman Productions, Scott Landis, Roger Berlind, Glass Half Full Productions/Just For Laughs Theatricals, 1001 Nights Productions, Tulchin Bartner Productions, Jane Bergère, Paula Marie Black, Rupert Gavin, Stephanie P.
