In Hester Swane, Marina Carr has created a protagonist who echoes Medea, seemingly doomed to undergo similar trials as her ancient Greek forbear.
By the Bog of Cats is a reworking of one of the most famous of the ancient Athenian tragedies, Medea by Euripides, which was first performed as far back as 431 BC.
